My dear friend and collaborator Steve Roden left this world on September 6. I haven’t written about it because, honestly, I am mostly without words, and I doubt I could write as eloquently about him as Lawrence English has here.
Steve was a wonderful artist and one of my favorite people. He was remarkable in so many ways, but what is especially apparent at the moment is how beloved he was/is, how many people consider him to be their good friend, just as I do. Aside from his amazing body of creative work, there is no better testament to a life lived well. He was brilliant yet humble, but most of all he was kind.
I loved Steve. Still love him. And I miss him. Have missed him. (Alzheimer’s is so cruel.) Will miss him. I’m grateful to have had him in my life, and for the music we made together. He made a lot of music. Listen.
